Music and Medicine, a Partnership for Life™

Welcome to ERMusic.Org, a site devoted to exploring the relationship between music, music therapy, and medicine. ERMusic.Org was developed by Eric Roter, M.D., a Board-Certified emergency medicine physician and master cellist, and his wife, Elisabeth Roter, M.D., Board-Certified in Rheumatology (joint and connective tissue disease) and Internal Medicine. They have combined their unique backgrounds to form a resource where medicine, music, and music therapy can be explored.

During the past 20 years, physicians, nurses, music therapists, psychologists, and allied health professionals have conducted a significant amount of research using music as an adjunct to healing and wellness. They have found substantial evidence that music and music therapy, alone and in combination with modern medicine, can help improve mood, alleviate pain, and perhaps even assist the immune system to overcome disease.

We are proud to review the current research involving music, music therapy, and medicine and have presented it in a user-friendly, enjoyable format. We hope you support all scientific research that seeks to improve the quality of life.

We thank the many thousands of patients we have treated for inspiring us to create this site.
